Many hands needed after heavy rainfall leaves Traralgon Creek full of rubbish

A major volunteer clean-up effort of the Traralgon Creek is planned for 5 December 2022 to pick up the rubbish washed along the Creek after heavy rainfall.

 Key Projects

Give a Damn, Give a Can

There is no progress without change and in 2021, the project underwent a quantum shift to rival the cancelling of the street walk.

The GADGAC Team again targeted schools, aged care facilities, community organisations, businesses, shopping centres and kerbside collection points. In recent years, we have dropped door to door collections from members, scouts and schools, but the red kerbside bins have proved a winner...this year has out-stripped any previous collection.

Collections came from:

Schools - 7,556
Kerbside Bins - 1,422
Community - 677
Grant Monies, Cash for Cans - 5,236

TOTAL - 14,891

Timor Leste Project

A project supporting the RC of Leongatha in developing a community hub in Suco Lauria East Timor.

Bowel Scan

The club is a long-time supporter and via PP Ian Leversha, those efforts have continued. Thanks to Ian Leversha who has sold 60 packs.

Bee-hive Donation

RC of Essendon has sourced 100 beehives from the local Men’s Shed as their R100 project. 30 are being donated to the two Traralgon clubs for distribution to this area. Each club will take 15. There are 2 organisations down here who can assist with distribution. Each club will co-ordinate with one of these groups.

The Rod Morris Award

$500 is awarded as an encouragement to a conscientious student at Traralgon College whose pathway through school to tertiary studies would be advanced by such funding. In 2020 the award was presented to Alyshia Huffer via Zoom on December 11.

Student Exchange

Member Michael Bannerman multi-tasked between defending the nation’s honour in the Middle East and providing support for daughter Samantha on exchange in Covid ravaged Denmark.

John Ruyg Award

A new award commemorating arborist John Ruyg. John’s children attend Traralgon South PS. The award for combining academic prowess with community awareness was presented to 13 year old Trafalgar HS student Abby Riddell. Abby presented to the club a well prepared profile, thanking the club for initiating the award. This will be annual award.

Donations in Kind

With wing mirrors secure and the truck loaded like Tetris in overdrive, PP Charlie Medhurst does more hard yards to support school furniture container deliveries to island neighbourhoods to our north.

Boolarra Australia Day Sausage Sizzle

The club organised a Sausage Sizzle as part of the Boolarra Australia Day Community Celebration. We received a $1000 Australia Day Cluster donation which we donated to the Boolarra Development Group who organised the event.
